Spanish omelette (Tortilla de patatas, tortilla española) is an absolutely delicious omelette made with eggs and potatoes, sometimes with addition of onions or garlic. It is a very popular dish in Spain and in some Spanish speaking countries.
The potatoes are cut into small pieces (slices or dice) and deep fried in vegetable oil. The potatoes are then removed, drained and combined with slightly beaten eggs. This mixture is seasoned with salt and pepper and at this stage you can also add crushed garlic. If you like, you can also add parsley or oregano. This mixture is poured back into the pan and fried on both sides.
Spanish omelette (Tortilla de patatas) may be served warm or cold, as a snack or as an appetizer. It’s easy to make, with a handful of ingredients and very tasty! You must try this recipe!

Ingredients for Spanish omelette (Tortilla de patatas)

– 5 eggs
– 4 potatoes
– 4 garlic cloves
– salt and pepper to taste
– vegetable oil



How to make Spanish omelette (Tortilla de patatas)

Peel and rinse the potatoes, then cut them into thin slices.
Pour 3-4 tablespoons of vegetable oil into a frying pan. Place the pan over medium heat and add the sliced potatoes. Cook until the potatoes are cooked through.Remove from heat and drain the potatoes.
Set aside.
Crack the eggs into a medium bowl. Season with salt and pepper and slightly whisk them. Combine the eggs with the fried potatoes and crushed garlic.



Transfer this mixture back into the frying pan. Place the pan over a low-medium heat.
Cook until the omelette is almost firm on top.
Loosen the edges of the omelette. Place a plate on top of the frying pan. Flip the pan over the  plate and tip out the tortilla. Carefully slide the omelette back into the frying pan and cook for a few more minutes (or until the second side is firm and cooked through).
Turn out the Spanish omelette onto a serving plate.
Serve this delicious Spanish omelette warm or cold. You can serve it along with your favorite salad.
