Valentine’s day cookies (video recipe)

I love Valentine’s day, is one of my favorite holidays. It’s about love, kisses, hugs but also about cookies, candies and cakes. And i just realized that I don’t have any Valentine’s day recipe on my blog. OMG, I must fix this!!!

So I made these Valentine’s day cookies. See how cute they are 🙂

Tender and buttery, with crisp edges and coated with chocolate, these sugar cookies are the perfect sweet treat for Valentine’s day. These Valentine’s day cookies are also very easy to prepare with a handful of ingredients.

As regarding the ingredients it’s very important to use unsalted butter or 82% fat butter. Low fat butter is not a good option for these cookies because it contains too much water and your cookies will spread too much. So, for cookies with crisp edges which hold their shape, use unsalted butter or 82% fat butter.

Also it’s very important to chill the prepared dough for about 15-20 minutes. The dough will be easier to roll out. Don’t chill more than 20 minutes because the dough will be too hard and difficult to work with. 15 is the magic number :).

Still if you have to keep the dough into refrigerator longer than 15 minutes (like overnight or so), you should keep it at room temperature for about 30 minutes before rolling it.

These Valentine’s day cookies need some frosting not only for looks but also for taste. I mean without frosting they are just regular cookies, there’s nothing special about them. Ok, they are heart shaped but that’s not enough. So I dipped my Valentine’s day cookies in melted chocolate, topped with sprinkles and voila: My cookies are soooo cute!

Instead of melted chocolate you may also use royal icing.

You definitely have to try these Valentine’s day cookies! They are so delicious, cute and fun!

Stir together flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt. Set aside.

Place butter (soft) and sugar into a mixing bowl. Mix until creamy.

Add the vanilla essence and the egg and mix to combine. Stir in the flour.

You should obtain a dry and crumbly dough.

Transfer the dough onto the working surface and flatten into a 2-3 cm (1 in) thick circle.

Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 15 minute.

Transfer the dough to the slightly floured working surface. Roll out into a 6-7 mm (1/4 in) thick circle. Using a heart cookie cutter cut as many shapes as you can. Grab the scraps, roll out and cut out again till you finish the dough.

place the cookies into the baking pan lined with parchment paper.

Place the cookies into the preheated oven and bake on 350ºF (175ºC) for about 10-12 minutes (or until the edges are lightly golden brown)

Allow cookies to cool completely and meanwhile prepare the chocolate.

Place dark chocolate and 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil into a heatproof bowl and white chocolate along with 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil into another. Melt.

Hold the base of each cookie and dip the surface into melted chocolate.

Place the cookies onto parchment paper and immediately top with sprinkles.

Allow chocolate to dry.

Enjoy!
