Menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs with tomatoes and peppers)

Menemen is a traditional Turkish dish made from eggs and vegetables. It’s a kind of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, onions and peppers. Menemen may also include other vegetables, feta cheese or pastrami and it is seasoned with ground black pepper, ground red pepper, salt and oregano. Menemen is cooked with olive oil or with sun flower oil.
Menemen is a rich, nourishing and flavorful dish which makes the perfect summer breakfast. Of course you can cook Menemen in any other season but te perfect Menemen requires fresh and well ripe tomatoes which you can find only in summer time. In extra-season you can use canned tomatoes.
Menemen is quick and easy to make with a handful of budget friendly ingredients.
You may serve this delicious dish with homemade bread, for breakfast but also for lunch or for dinner.

Ingredients for Menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs with tomatoes and peppers)

– 8 eggs
– 4 medium tomatoes (juicy and ripe) or 1 can diced tomatoes (about 400 gr)
– 2 bell peppers (different colors)
– 1 onion
– 30 ml olive oil
– salt and pepper to taste
– red pepper flakes or paprika to taste
– dried oregano to taste

How to make Menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs with tomatoes and peppers)

Finely chop the onion and place it into a large skillet along with 30 ml vegetable oil. Cook, stirring often, until glossy.
Toss in chopped bell peppers and continue to cook for a few minutes, stirring often.
Add the diced tomatoes and season with salt, pepper and paprika (or red pepper flakes).
Continue to cook for a few minutes.
Meanwhile crack the eggs into a bowl and beat them with a fork (or a whisk).

Pour the beaten eggs into the skillet and stir to combine.
Continue to cook until the eggs are done.
Serve this delicious Menemen sprinkled with feta cheese and fresh herbs.
